Ralph Lauren has designed a new dress for the USA Team for the upcoming Beijing Olympics. It has a few high-tech tricks up his sleeve this time around.
The longtime Official Outfitter for team USA used an innovative temperature-responsive fabric, ‘Intelligent Insulation,’ to create an American athlete. The opening ceremony outfits look as cool as they sound.
The sleep uniforms, debuted on-air by TODAY on Thursday, adapt to cooler temperatures by expanding, making them ideal for the Winter Games. They create an extra layer of insulation to keep athletes warm.
Ralph Lauren has partnered with textile innovation company ‘Skyscrape’ to leverage the impressive technology that adjusts to changes in air temperature.
The unique fabric consists of two materials that contract or expand separately at their speed, resulting in the textile bending and acquiring and creating indispensable insulation.
In addition to being relatively cool, the technology also has a long-lasting appearance since it can help a garment work at multiple temperatures.
For example, this lightweight parka you wear in early fall might operate in much cooler conditions with the help of Intelligent Insulation.
David Lauren, Chief Branding and Innovation Officer said, “The development and introduction of Intelligent Insulation reimagine what is possible in the apparel landscape. For the first time, you can have a singular item that provides incredible versatility and style for various temperatures, changing the way we can holistically think about the make-up of a consumer’s closet.”
The look includes a medium-thick jacket, trousers, gloves, and boots made from recycled polyester. However, the whole outfit is made in the United States.
