New York Yankees Hired Female Manager In Affiliate Baseball History

Major League Baseball (MLB) announced that ‘New York Yankees’ has hired Rachel Balkovec, female manager, to manage its minor league Low-A affiliate, the Tampa Tarpons.

Rachel Balkovec is the first female manager in affiliate baseball history.

It is not the first time professional baseball has broken barriers in the sport. Balkovec became the first full-time hitting coach in 2019 when she got hired for the ‘New York Yankees’ rookie-level Florida Complex League team.

Balkovec has got experience in baseball and has coached for the Australian Baseball League. The Minor League Baseball season got canceled due to COVID-19 in 2020.

MLB tweeted, “The Yankees have hired Rachel Balkovec as the manager of the @tampatarpons, their Low-A affiliate. She will become the first female manager in affiliated professional history.”

Once the announcement was made, the Twitter users congratulated Rachel Balkovec.

One user wrote, “Congratulations, Rachel! She has multiple graduate degrees, too, and she has earned this position!

Balkovec told ‘the Associated Press’ in 2019 that she views her journey as a woman in the male-dominated baseball world to be an “advantage.”

Balkovec said, “I view my path as an advantage. I had to do probably much more than maybe a male counterpart, but I like that because I am so much more prepared for the challenges I might encounter.”
