Fans of the Sanderson sisters rejoice, as Disney officially announced two weeks ago that there would indeed be a sequel to Hocus Pocus.
What is even more exciting is that all three of the original Sanderson sisters, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, will be returning and reprising their Spooktacular roles.
Although the sequel was officially announced two weeks ago, it seems that it has actually been in the planning process with rumors of its possibly being made since as far back as 2017. Since the release of the original back in 1993, it has garnered somewhat of an occult following over the years. It has gained a rather large fan base of the 90’s kids, that are now adults.
It didn’t hurt that Freeform pretty much put the movie on autoplay during their most recent 31 Nights of Halloween. With the upcoming sequel, a whole generation will now experience the same phenomenon that their parents did.
What is really amazing is that when Hocus Pocus first came out in the theaters, it was a major flop. It cost Disney to the tune of $16.5 million to make the film. However, it has been revived through the miracle that is broadcast television. So much so that the film now has a cult-like following.
The sequel will only be available on Disney’s new online streaming service, Disney+. Not much is really known about the sequel other than it has been confirmed by Sarah Jessica Parker, by way of a comment on her Instagram account, that all three original actresses have said yes to returning and are reportedly waiting for their instructions.
All that is left for fans now is to be patient. It is now a waiting game because with the confirmation of all three original “witches,” you can rest assured that there is no hocus pocus going on here.
