Elizabeth Banks will be directing a reboot of the “Charlie’s Angels” movies, which were themselves based on the 1970s action TV series. When it comes to casting, the biggest question is who will be playing the three central Angels. According to Variety, the next generation has been chosen and Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska will be filling the boots of the next generation of female spies working for Charlie, with Banks herself playing Bosley. You may recall the last big-screen version of the action-oriented Angels starred the trio of Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu, last seen in “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” from 2003.
Kristen Stewart shouldn’t need much of an introduction, playing the central character of Bella in the “Twilight” movie saga, with her more recent roles being in independent movies. Naomi Scott is better known for her role in 2017’s “Power Rangers,” but will soon be known for playing Princess Jasmine in the upcoming live-action version of Disney’s “Aladdin.” Ella Balinska is a fairly unknown actress, known for a few small roles on British television.
Here’s a small synopsis of what the film is sounding like it’s going to end up as:
The film will focus on the next generation of Angels working for the mysterious Charlie. Since the original films, the Townsend Agency has grown considerably and gone global, providing security and intelligence services to a wide variety of private clients with offices and highly-trained teams worldwide. This film focuses on one of those teams.
The new “Charlie’s Angels” is set to premiere September 27, 2019.
