Shopping efficiently and saving money is a pretty big essential in most households these days, especially if you have a big family. As prices consistently increase, we tend to find more ways to create our own items to save the dough and cut back. Bonus- it’s actually quite fun in researching for the best deals and making your own stuff, sort of a sense of pride right?! Well recently, a homemade laundry detergent has become the new thing in our household and I couldn’t be more excited! The recipe is easy, inexpensive, and works wonders on the clothes. Literally hits all 3 “musts” on the DIY list which is such a great feeling!
65oz box of Borax
55oz box of Washing Soda
1 Fels Naptha Laundry Bar
18oz container of Purex Crystals (or you can use Downey Unstoppables, whichever you prefer!)
Now, when I say this recipe is easy, I seriously mean it!
Once you have all the ingredients all you need to do is grate the Fels soap into a bowl (the finer the better to mix), combine it with the washing soda, borax, and crystals/unstoppables. THAT’S IT! It makes a ton of detergent and you only need 1-2 tablespoons per wash. Simply amazing. Storing is simple too as you can put in a closed container or just a ziplock bag and it’s all good. Now you can enjoy the extra money and wonderful smelling clothes until it’s time to make batch #2!
