As an old saying goes, all good things come in threes. Well, if it hasn’t been said, it should have. At this year’s Sand Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios announced that Ant-Man 3 was officially on target as part of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the massive Infinity Saga having wrapped up, Marvel is now turning their eyes to the future of Phase 4.
Marvel announced their plans for the next phase, which was mapped out in detail through 2021, and there is no doubt that the studio is going to be uber busy. Not only is the cinematic wing filled chuck to the brim with new movies, but there are also all the new shows that will be made exclusively for the new streaming service Disney+.
As if all of this isn’t another to give a true Marvel fan the vapors, Fiege teased the fact that more sequels to several popular franchises are currently in different stages of development. It seems that there are more characters and storylines to be made, and Marvel is in the process of getting them done.
With all the announcements made at the SDCC, one franchise seemed to be left out—that of Ant-Man. Having done very well at the box office, with both previous installments, it was shocking to fans that Fiege dropped no new information or teased about a third installment.
However, fans can rest easy, as a report from THR stated that the wheels on the machine that is Ant-Man 3 are definitely in motion. In fact, the word is that Peyton Reed, who directed both Ant-Man and its sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp, has been tapped to return for the third entry into the franchise.
Although no official word has been issued on whether or not Paul Rudd or Evangeline Lilly will reprise their titular roles, production is reportedly planned to begin late 2020 to early 2021. This adds up to a possible theatrical release sometime in 2022.
