Three Natural Remedies For An Upset Stomach

Tummy aches are fairly common, and have any number of causes. Usually they’re not serious and the symptoms will pass quickly. But if you need relief now, here are some simple and natural remedies you can find in your own kitchen to help you soothe that sick stomach.

Ginger

For centuries, ginger has been used for its natural anti-inflammatory properties for everything from general pain to nausea. Studies have proven that it can also be a very effective treatment for many kinds of an upset stomach. There are ginger chews or supplements available, or you can try chopping up fresh ginger to brew a tea or drink an all natural ginger ale.

Chamomile

Sweet smelling Chamomile is a flower that is often used to make teas and extracts. Like ginger, it has long been recognized as having anti-inflammatory properties. A cup of pure Chamomile tea can help treat a number of digestive issues, such as irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhea, acid reflux, and colic. Chamomile tea is also known for reducing anxiety and helping people fall to sleep, which may help explain its effectiveness. Stress can be a big factor in making acid reflux worse, so if drinking Chamomile tea helps to reduce stress, it may also help reduce or prevent stress-related acid reflux episodes.

Mint

Mint is often recommended as a natural and inexpensive remedy for nausea and an upset stomach because the menthol in its leaves is a natural analgesic or pain reliever. Mint is a plant that can be easily grown in a pot on your windowsill. You can try brewing a cup of peppermint or spearmint tea to sip, or even try to just chew on the mint leaves themselves. There are all-natural mint candies you can suck on, or use peppermint extract or essential oils.
