All though Avengers: Endgame has broken multiple records and is one of the highest grossing films of all time, it is still the highest. However, with the rerelease this past weekend of what can only be called a major juggernaut, it is still not at the title of highest-grossing yet.
Having grossed an estimated additional $5.5 million this weekend alone in the US, and another estimated $2.3 million worldwide, one would have to wonder just how close the film is to the title. Of course, the addition of six extra minutes to the rerelease, including a special tribute, a deleted scene, and the offering of new insight into “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” added to the box office totals.
Since its initial release on April 26th, the film has grossed an unbelievable $2.76 billion worldwide. Even with its massive box office numbers, Avengers: Endgame has yet to take the highest grossing title from James Cameron’s 2009 smash “Avatar.” “Avatar” currently holds that title, having grossed an unprecedented and before unseen total of $2.78 worldwide.
As the totals stand, Avengers: Endgame needs to earn $26 million more at the box office, and it will steal the title and the crown from “Avatar.” Having been rereleased in over 2,000 theaters this weekend, it is almost assured that the movie will remain in theaters for the rest of the summer. Factoring in this time frame, it is quite possible for Avengers: Endgame to not only reach that goal but even possibly surpass it.
Ironman himself, Robert Downey Jr, took to social media this week and encouraged all fans to head out to the theaters and make Avengers: Endgame a part of cinematic history. He tweeted:
“Wanna make history? The #GAME has yet to #END! Avengers rerelease. Suit up, show up, records gonna blow up!! #EndGameRerelease today…”
